Day trip from South Bali Diving in Tulamben
Try Diving in Tulamben from South Bali
1 Pool session + 2 Shore Dives
US Liberty Wreck
Level : All levels
Depth : 30 m
The USAT Liberty is a must for Bali divers and wreck lovers, not only for its history, but for the prolific marine life inhabiting it. It is perfect for a day trip from south Bali. The wreck is suitable for all levels due to its depth and generally calm ocean conditions. The wreck lies on a sandy slope with the top of the wreck close to the surface in 5 m going down to 30 m at the bow. It is covered with beautiful hard and soft corals and surrounded by big schools of fish like jackfish, barracuda and sweetlips. Furthermore you will be able to spot leaf scorpionfish, bluespot stingrays, garden eels as well as crabs, lobsters and nudibranchs. This site is suitable for all levels from beginners without dive experience, to certified divers.
The USAT Liberty Wreck is perfect for history lovers that are on a scuba diving trip to Tulamben. If you want to see an artificial reef on a sandy slope “decorated” with a sunken ship, this is it!
Hence, when you are diving on this spot, you’re looking at history. A Japanise cargo boat was enlisted into service in WW2. However, the ship was disabled in January 1942 by a Japanese torpedo, and it was left in Tulamben. By 1963, the local Mount Agung erupted causing the boat to sink. Today, that same boat is transformed into a glorious wreck and artificial reef.
According to one of our clients, Nicolas L via Trip Advisor:
“We are a French couple who traveled in Bali in September. We discovered Bali Diving Academy first when we dived with them in Pemuteran. They were very helpful (special thanks to the owner, Noëllie, who took good care of us each time very quickly!) and super friendly. The team in Tulamben is not that big yet, but the quality of the equipment and the service were irreproachable, we had an amazing dive each time!
In Tulamben, we dived two times: first around the huge USS Liberty Shipwreck, and then inside the boat with all kind of colorful fishes. Our guide Made was very invested in making this experience as best as possible (finding the best spots, giving us a lot of explanations, taking pics) and it definitely worked.”
The Tulamben dive trip wouldn’t be amazing without visiting the USAT Liberty Wreck dive spot.
Coral Garden
Level : All levels
Depth : 15 m
Coral Garden is the shallow reef that runs across 150 meters along the middle section of Tulamben beach. If you’re one of those scuba divers that love ocean flora, you’re going to adore this diving spot.
Underwater you’ll see table corals and anemones, sponges and soft corals, intertwined into a beautiful “mosaic” of colors. However, that’s not all; you will also catch a glimpse of blue ribbon eels, cuttlefishes and octopuses. You can even go scuba diving at night because of the gentle current.
This dive site has an abundance of major coral formations, and if you’re looking for unusual animals, this is your spot! Moreover, once underwater, you’ll enjoy the view of small rocks, hard corals or sponges.
Drop off / Wall dive site
Level : Open Water Diver
Depth : 40 m
The Drop off / Wall is one of our favorite scuba diving spots to show to our clients. Therefore, the Tulamben dive trip gives you a chance to see it first hand. This dive spot is created from an old lava flow from Mount Agung, and it features steep sand slopes. Scuba divers can enjoy meeting nudibranchs, flounders, ghost pipefish, and goby and shrimp sets.
However, the real beauty is in the spectacular topography of the reef, which turns into a grand wall that ends in an impressive steep slope. It’s quite easy for beginners to dive here because the current is very slow. If you visit this spot after rain, you can observe the profusion of sponges, corals, black coral bushes, and gorgonian fans.
It’s a dive spot that you shouldn’t miss on your scuba diving trip to Tulamben. Once you’re underwater, your eyes will widen with joy because of the variety of colors on the hard and soft corals, fire and table corals, sea fans and sponges. Deep between the rocks, you can observe some beautiful ocean animals.
You will be surprised by the amazing biodiversity of Tulamben!
