PADI TEC 40
Bali
Your first step into technical diving. Learn to plan and execute decompression dives to 40 metres in the warm waters of Bali.
The Gateway
to Tec Diving
The PADI TEC 40 course is the entry point into the world of technical diving. It bridges the gap between recreational diving and full technical decompression diving, qualifying you to plan and execute limited decompression dives to a maximum of 40 metres/130 feet using a single decompression gas.
You'll learn the fundamental skills, equipment configuration, and mindset required for safe technical diving — building the foundation for TEC 45, TEC 50, and beyond.
Bali's clear water, warm temperatures, and accessible deep sites make it one of the best places in the world to start your technical diving journey.
What You'll
Master
Dive Planning
Plan limited decompression dives to 40 metres with accurate gas consumption calculations, decompression schedules, and contingency plans.
Decompression Diving
Execute your first real decompression dives — controlled ascent rates, mandatory stops, and accelerated decompression using EANx up to 50%.
Equipment Configuration
Configure and use technical diving equipment correctly — twinset or sidemount, stage cylinder, technical wing and harness, and redundant systems.
Emergency Management
Identify and respond to common technical diving problems — equipment failures, gas loss, and diver distress — with calm, trained responses.
Technical Mindset
Develop the discipline, planning habits, and situational awareness that technical diving demands — before every dive, not just during it.
Buoyancy & Trim
Master horizontal trim and precision buoyancy control — the essential foundation for all technical diving at depth.
How the
Course Works
The PADI Tec 40 course combines a knowledge development session, practical skill application sessions, a confined water dive, and open water dives at Bali's best technical dive sites.

Common
Questions
How long does the PADI Tec 40 course take in Bali?
The PADI Tec 40 course typically takes 3 days to complete in Bali, depending on conditions and your comfort level. We can also structure an extended schedule to suit your dive trip.
Do I need my own technical diving equipment?
Full technical equipment is required — twin cylinders or sidemount, stage cylinder, technical BCD, and multiple regulators. Twin set rental is available on request. Sidemount configuration is welcome.
Can I do TEC 40 if I'm certified with SSI or another agency?
Yes — qualifying certifications from other recognised training organisations may be accepted. Contact us with your certification details and we'll advise you on eligibility.
How deep can I dive after TEC 40?
The PADI Tec 40 certifies you to make limited decompression dives to a maximum of 40 metres using one decompression gas. To go deeper, you progress to TEC 45 and TEC 50.
What's the difference between TEC 40 and recreational diving?
Recreational diving is conducted within no-decompression limits — you can ascend directly to the surface at any time. Technical diving involves planned decompression stops during ascent, meaning you are committed to the dive plan once you descend. TEC 40 introduces this discipline in a structured, controlled way.
