Join us for an exciting and educational 1-day scuba diving program focused on the identification and conservation of manta rays and sea turtles. This program is designed for divers of all levels who are passionate about marine life and eager to contribute to conservation efforts.
Morning Session:
Welcome and Briefing:
- Introduction to the day’s schedule
- Overview of manta rays and sea turtles, including their biology, behavior, and conservation status
- Explanation of identification techniques and data collection methods
Dive 1: Manta Ray Identification:
- Dive at a popular manta ray cleaning station
- Learn to identify individual manta rays by their unique markings
- Collect photos of manta rays to submit to the Manta matcher database
- Observe and record manta ray behavior and interactions
- Opportunity to ask questions and share insights with the instructor
Second Session:
Dive 2: Sea Turtle Identification:
- Dive at a known turtle habitat
- Identify different species of sea turtles and their unique characteristics
- Collect data on turtle sightings, including age, size, and any distinguishing features
- Submit Turtle pictures to the Olive Ridley Project
- Debriefing and Conservation Discussion:
- Review and analyze the collected data
- Discuss the importance of manta ray and turtle conservation
- Learn about ongoing conservation projects and how you can get involved
