A bit about us....

At Bali Diving Academy, we connect you with the ocean!

Being one of the oldest scuba diving centers in Bali, and diving pioneers in Indonesia, we value experience and professionalism.

100 Percent Safety Record

One of the key things we put our focus on is safety. Since the opening of the Bali Diving Academy in 1991, our safety record has been 100 percent. With us, you are safe! We never dive in groups bigger than 4 persons giving you our undivided attention, our equipment is renewed and revised very regularly, our team is PADI certified, our Instructor are real PADI Instructor.

Ocean Preservation

The ocean is everything for us, to respect and preserve it is crucial. That’s why we’re so focused on being environmentally friendly. Therefore, the Bali Diving Academy is Green-Fins certified, and we obtained the best score in Indonesia at the time of certification.

Moreover, that’s why we have a close collaboration with the famous Coral Triangle Center (the foundation that set protected marine areas in Indonesia), the Marine Megafauna Foundation (for the study and protection of Mantas) and with the team working on the Biorck Project that we have trained.

In fact, we also have an in-house Marine Biologist for conservation projects in line with our Divemaster trainee program.

Local Involvement

Another issue we’re committed to at the Bali Diving Academy is our strong local presence and continuous involvement with the community. We think that by training locals, they can spread the word of its beauty. Thus, that’s one of the reasons why we are community-based. In fact, a big majority of the staff is working in the company since 2012 (six years) or longer, and we give priority to a hi-end training of locals.

For example, we have trained the first and only Balinese freediving instructors. Giving back to the community and fighting to contain the beauty of the ocean are crucial parts of our values here on the island.

Multilingual Team

We have guests from all over the world! Moreover, it’s our job to keep them safe while they’re diving and to make sure they’re having an amazing time in the ocean. Therefore, good communication is essential if we want to achieve these goals. That’s why we have assembled a multilingual team that speaks English, French, German, Dutch, Portuguese, Spanish and of course Bahasa Indonesia.

Customized Packages

The Bali Diving Academy is famous for custom-tailored programs and workshops. We recognize that some of our guests have special requirements or they want to obtain a certification/knowledge that’s not offered in the general courses. That’s why we’re offering customized packages that include:

  • Transportation - thanks to own driver and exclusive contracts with fast boat companies
  • Accommodation - thanks to long-term contracts with hotels that offer us net rates, which are mainly better than booking.com
  • Reservation team - efficient and reliable, stationed at the office in Sanur

We want you to be able to only focus on the most important: to be in the ocean and not having to take care on which transportation and which accommodation to book to discover the underwater world.

Diving

At the Bali Diving Academy, we train students from the PADI Open Water course, which is the beginner level and up to the instructor course. Moreover, we offer diving all across Bali with possibilities for dive safaris in:

  • Menjangan
  • Tulamben
  • Amed

Our instructors will show you the best places where you can see the mola mola fish, hang out with manta rays or admire the blooming corals.

Accommodation

One of the things that make the Bali Diving Academy special is our accommodation offer. As we said above, we take care of our guests. That is why we created special packages that include everything from dives to transportation and accommodation. Furthermore, because of our exclusive deals with the hotels, we can even offer you better prices than most. Additionally, each year we welcome the National Geographic Student Expedition group, ISKL, International School of Kuala Lumpur. Each group contains between 20 and 40 students, depending on the year. We have the capacity to teach all these students how to dive and the honor to show them the beauty of the ocean. We work with smaller groups from agents as well.

Since my very first dive 17 years ago I knew I would like to have a job linked to the ocean. I have always believed that if we show and help people to discover the fascinating underwater world, this will contribute to preserve it, which is very important to me. After my studies at University in International Relations and in law in Switzerland, I have worked in the finance industry learning how to manage a business while keeping up the diving at the same time. Having always had the desire to have my own company, the circle was closed with the idea to own a diving academy and be as environmentally friendly as possible. To offer a high standard of service, following all international standards without cutting corners, having a really great team and being able to offer possibilities to locals to learn and to give them perspectives in the company are the main reasons why Oliver and I are proud to be the owners of Bali Diving Academy. Being community based and support local and international environmental and scientific initiatives on a regular basis is the reason why our guests, in a way, dive differently with us.

Ever since I started diving when I was a teenager I am in love with the ocean. I like diving as a sport and I am passionate about the underwater world and would like to do everything to preserve it. When I got older and was working in a corporate environment in Switzerland I had a deep desire to be an entrepreneur and to work abroad. By being owner of Bali Diving Academy I can combine my passion for diving with being an entrepreneur. This enables Noëllie and me to lead a company the way it can provide opportunities and persepctives to local employees by offering training to become a dive professional or a boat captain and hence furthering the awareness of the marine environment among the local population. I am also proud to be able to support research activities into Manta Rays and other marine species through Bali Diving Academy.

I was born and grew up at little village up at the hill in Banyuwangi region - East of Java. My childhood was wonderful, I lived surrounded by beautiful environment, such as rice field, small river, cocoa plantation and many more. I am in love  with nature under and above. After my graduation, I moved to Bali to start my career. In September 2011, I joined Bali Diving Academy, in position as Office Manager.  I am in charge of Sales and Reservation, HRD and General Affairs. What I love about working at BDA is that the people here are very professional and to me they are more like my family rather than my boss or my colleagues. When I go to work, I don’t feel that I am going to "office" but I feel that I am going to "my second home

I, together with my husband, manage Bali Diving Academy in Pemuteran.  I am originally from South Africa, but got bitten by the diving bug and started travelling in 1998.  Since then I have worked in many different countries as a diving instructor.  We moved to Pemuteran in March 2013, after being attracted to the area by the beautiful coral reefs and abundance of marine life.  From the beginning I was fascinated by the Biorock Project and simply blown away by the speed of growth of the reef.  We do a lot of our training dives on the Biorock, so we help the Biorock Center by doing regular reef clean-ups and we also remove crown-of-thorn starfish when necessary.  After 25 years as a diver I still love diving and introducing people to the underwater world.

I manage Bali Diving Academy together with my wife, Karin.  I am from Holland, where I used to work as a teacher and artist till 1997, before deciding to follow my dream and become a full-time diver.  I have worked in many different countries as a diving instructor before settling down in Pemuteran in 2013.  I love this area for its natural beauty, both above and under water and mild ocean conditions.  My passion is underwater photography and digital art.  I have co-written and published a book about Underwater Photography and love teaching photographers how to get the best out of their equipment.  I am also the author of many Fish Identification and underwater photography Apps.

I grew up by the sea in Banyopoh and taught myself to swim after watching how my friends were doing it.  After school I first worked in a hotel and then at an oyster farm, where I spent a lot of time in the water pulling around oyster platforms.  In 2004 I got a job with a dive center and they taught me to dive.  I loved being in the water but was very scared in the beginning; I thought there were lots of big things that might like to eat me!  In 2009 I moved over to Bali Diving Academy in Pemuteran where I eventually did my Diving Instructor and Emergency First Responder Instructor courses.  Teaching people to dive is really my passion and I even got a Certificate of Excellence from PADI for teaching.  I believe it is important to stay involved in environment projects, so I help with a village reforestation project to prevent erosion and also help with beach and underwater clean ups, as well as crown-of-thorn control.  I am married and father to two girls

After a couple of work experiences in offices, back home in France, I discovered the underwater and the scuba diving world in Bali, 14 years ago. Since then, it has become my life, bringing me to amazing places such as Indonesia, Maldives, India… and here I am now back in Indonesia, where it all started!

The pleasure of sharing scuba diving knowledge, of teaching new divers and helping our oceans by giving awareness to more and more people, is what has kept me in scuba diving for so long. And until date, I am still thoroughly enjoying my time in the water; in fact, Nusa Lembongan has such great dive sites to offer that it has given me back the passion for diving which I had somehow lost on the way (as a manager, I spending most days in front of a computer at the office).

I was appointed as Manager of Lembongan dive center and I am very proud working for Bali Diving Academy, who values primarily the safety of divers and the protection of our environment.

After I finished school I worked as a gardener in Nusa Dua until I decided to move closer to my family in Pemuteran. I heard about a job opening up as helper on a dive boat.  Over the next few years I worked my way up from helper to snorkeling guide and eventually to dive guide.  One of the biggest challenges I had to overcome was learning to swim at the age of 30!  I worked as a Divemaster for 3 years.  Last year Bali Diving Academy offered me the opportunity to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.  I had to work really hard, especially since I had to do the whole course in English, but I passed the exam and taught my first course in August 2016.  I love the challenge of teaching beginners to dive and to introduce them to the underwater world.  When I am not teaching, I often help out at the Biorock Project, to do underwater cleanups and to plant baby corals.  I am married and the father of two young boys.

During and after high school I worked in a hotel, where I learned to speak English.  I started as bell-boy and finally worked on the reception.  After a few years I decided to look for a new challenge.  I applied for a job as snorkel guide with Bali Diving Academy and was accepted because of my language ability.  Even though I hadn't snorkeled before, I could not really swim, so that was the first thing I had to learn!  The other staff helped to teach me and after 3 months I could independently work as snorkel guide. My ultimate dream was to besome a Freediver Instructor and Bali Diving Academy gave me the possibility to become one. I went to Gili Air one month and was trained by the renown school of Oli Christen. I am the only Balinese certified AIDA Freediver Instructor and I am able to go to 40 meters deep dive and hold my breath during more than 4 minutes. I truly love teaching freediving and to share my passion.

Originally from Colombia Bogota, but spent many years in Canada, I started diving at the young age of 13 in Cuba, thanks to my amazing father. Diving at such a young age and falling in love with the underwater world eventually propelled me to pursue an education in marine biology, which I completed in Canada at Dalhousie University in the Atlantic coast. After achieving my bachelors degree, I left Canada and travelled to Australia where I took my scuba diving instructor examination. I spent a year in Australia working on the great barrier reef and teaching ocean and climate change awareness and sharing my passion for the oceans with others. I have travelled here to Indonesia in order to continue to teach others about our wonderful and mysterious oceans and to share my love for them. I have come to work for Bali dive Academy because of their continued commitment to the conservation of our oceans. I hope to be able to share my knowledge with all those who wish to explore the beautiful underwater world of Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan.

I cannot remember a time when I did not come to the beach every day.  My father was a fisherman and I while growing up, I was always either in the water or on the water, in the boat.  I love the ocean and could not imagine a job which would take me away from it.  When I was a young boy, I worked at a local dive center for pocket money (with my friend Gede!).  We both helped to carry tanks, clean equipment and do other small jobs around the dive center.  When I finished school, I started working as a helper and eventually became a snorkel guide once my English was good enough.  In 2013 I finished my Divemaster course and since then I have been working as dive guide.  I love to introduce people to the diving in Pemuteran and Menjangan and to show them all the different critters.  In my free time I help out at the Biorock Project to maintain structures and do clean-ups.  I am married and father to a baby boy.

Growing up, I knew nothing about the ocean.  I was trained in hospitality, but when the hotel changed owners, I lost my job.  A friend recommended me to the manager of Bali Diving academy for a job as helper.  On the first day that I went out on the boat, I was horribly seasick.  Same on the second day!  I went home and told my father that this was not the job for me.  He told me: ‘You did not find this job, this job found you.  Give it a chance.  And by the way, it is probably a good time to learn to swim!’  I gave it a chance and I learned to swim and to speak English.  I was really scared when I did my Open Water Course, but finally I was comfortably enough to work as a snorkel guide.  Last year I became a Divemaster!  I love diving, especially with new divers, as I understand a lot of the challenges they have.  Apart from diving, I work closely with students in the local community and help to arrange cultural events.  I am newly married.

I was born in south Celebes island, grew up in Jakarta and finished my bachelor degree in law at Parahyangan Catholic University, Bandung. I joined student association for environment and adventure activity called Mahitala Unpar since I started my study in the university for six years. We did some expedition including mountain climbing, caving, rock climbing, rafting and diving. After that I combined law and nature for my last research in order to criticize and also advice stakeholders to protect wildlife sanctuary at Mount Papandayan, West Java. The fact to have spent so much time learning and exploring the nature made me completely fall in love with nature, and connected to the cosmos as a whole. So I decided to follow my passion by working and living in harmony with the nature as well.

After achieving my bachelor degrees, I moved to Labuan Bajo and worked in a dive industry for a year, I started to learn how to run a dive center, manage the guest, boat crew, while keeping up to learn more deep about diving at komodo national park.

Now, I’m in Nusa Lembongan, I joined Bali Diving Academy, and I got a chance work as a dive master trainee in Marine Biology, following my passion in nature and especially in the ocean. Bless up and big thanks for Bali Diving Academy for made me more connected with the ocean!

I have spent the most of my youth in the ocean and waters near Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Penida. Since I live in Nusa Lembongan, working in Bali Diving Academy as part of the diving support team is ideal because it is close to where my family is.

I have had many jobs in my life and worked on farms, in factories and on construction sites.  About 10 years ago I switched to security work and eventually started to work as security guard for Bali Diving Academy.  I am married and have a son and 2 daughters.  My son, Komang, works as snorkel guide with Bali Diving Academy.

I have had many jobs in the past but before I started to work in security I worked at a shrimp farm in Pemuteran.  I decided to change to security work because I like to work at night.  I started to work for Bali Diving Academy in 2014.  I am married and have one daughter.
