Operating on Gili Trawangan since 1998, Vila Ombak Diving Academy is the Lombok arm of the Bali Diving Academy group.
Our ongoing passion for diving and commitment to safety and enjoyment has been recognised by our divers, who come to us from around the globe. Importantly, knowledgeable international diving organisations also acknowledge our commitment to safety combined with enjoyment. Some examples are our “Outstanding Commitment to the PADI System of Education” award received in 2002, and the PADI “Outstanding Contribution to the Diving Industry,” for the whole Asia Pacific Region, in 2010.
Vila Ombak Diving Academy offers a relaxed diving environment that enables us to provide a flexible and personalised level of service, aimed at surpassing your highest expectations.
Our team of multilingual Instructors and Divemasters includes some of the most highly trained and experienced dive professionals from Indonesia and overseas. We look forward to ensuring the valuable leisure time you entrust to us is a safe, rewarding and unforgettable diving experience.
Bali Diving Academy Trawangan recognises its responsibility to protect the unique marine environment of the three Gili Islands. Our team was integral in the facilitation of the 2006 Biorock® Workshop that resulted in reef regeneration structures or “Coral Arks” creating habitat in which coral thrives and juvenile fishes can survive to breeding age. We also play an active role in vocational training programs, scientific studies, and environmental audits and maintain ongoing liaison to ensure protection and management of the region. Invest in the future by choosing to dive with a company committed to both community and environment. Remember to make your Gili Eco Trust contribution before leaving Trawangan.
Our partnership with Gili Trawangan’s first international and premier property, Hotel Vila Ombak as well as the “newborn” Ombak Sunset, allows us to offer excellent Dive and Stay packages.
Hotel Vila Ombak balances the comforts of first class accommodation with the enchanting natural beauty of its surrounds. It features the traditional building style of Lombok and its neighboring islands to blend harmoniously into the landscape.
Hotel Ombak Sunset is the sister property of our popular Hotel Vila Ombak.
A haven for those seeking the tranquility of an untouched island, Hotel Ombak Sunset is on the quiet western side of the island and is an expression of world class luxury mixed with the unique and exotic style of the surrounding Indonesian islands
As its name suggests, Hotel Ombak Sunset boasts an enthralling sunset view of sun sinking behind Bali’s rolling mountains.

Trawangan is the largest of the three Gili Islands. Long renowned by divers and snorkelers for its unique underwater environment, Trawangan’s reputation as an island paradise is well deserved.
A multi cultural mix of travellers enjoying the white sandy beaches, or sampling the beach side restaurants and bars, ensures it’s never hard to find a friendly conversation. Try horse riding, mountain biking, sea kayaking or snorkelling. Take an evening stroll and at end the day watching a beautiful sunset over Bali’s majestic Mount Agung.
As the tropical moon rises, so does Trawangan’s nightlife, which can be as romantic, casual or as frenetic as you wish. No motorised transport, no hassle’s… Come and escape for as long as you need to!
Snorkeling at Gili Trawangan can be a magical experience for young and old.
Although it’s possible to go directly from the beach, we always remind our friends to keep an eye on the currents.
The most effective way to enjoy most of the snorkelling sites is to follow our dive boats which depart several times a day just from the beach, and reach the best spots in maximum 20 minutes.
Once on site, our snorkelling guides will brief you first about safety procedures and the marine life that you are going to encounter, and after a fascinating snorkelling experience, they will be happy to sit with you at the dive centre to answer any questions you may have about your underwater encounters.
Turtles are without doubt the highlight!

There are several ways to get to the Gili Islands. If your hotel is unable to organize a boat transfer from Lombok for you, there are two other ways.
Daily flights operate from Bali to Lombok International airport. The downside is they are often late and involve too many transfers, and if you are a diver transferring to Bali, you have to consider the no-fly time.
We suggest Gili Cat Fast Boats that depart daily from Bali. For our divers, we solely recommend the Gili Cat Fast Boats because they are currently the safest, most reliable means of transport to and from Gili Trawangan. Although other Fast Boats are available and quite cheap, Gili Cat Fast Boats meet International Safety Standards, so their slightly higher fee is well worth it! Currently, no other Gili/Lombok/Bali transfer boats have the same International Safety Standard.
The Gili Cat Fast Boat trip makes it is possible for you to dive until a few hours before your departure, significantly reducing dive time lost because of transfers.
You can contact Gili Cat www.gilicat.com directly or we can book it for you.
